Watch a Velociraptor robot run faster than Usain Bolt

Watch a Velociraptor robot run faster than Usain Bolt

A new Velociratpor-inspired robot can outrun the world’s fastest human.

The two-legged robot, fittingly named “Raptor”, can reach a top speed of 46 km/h (28.6mph) on a treadmill - faster than Usain Bolt’s record of 43.92 km/h.
Created by researchers at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, the lightweight robot was inspired by Velociraptors - the predatory dinosaurs that lived 75 million years ago and were made famous by being the bad guys in Jurassic Park.
The robot is made from a lightweight composite material and is kept stable thanks to its “tail”.
Although it’s pretty speedy, it still hasn't quite overtaken the current record-holding Boston Dynamics Cheetah bot, which can reach 47 km/h - but given the fact the Velociraptor robot only has two legs instead of four, this is pretty impressive.
Right now the bot is only in the prototype stage, and needs to be supported on the treadmill with a bar, but further work aims to change that.
Although, we’re not too sure we want too many of these bots running around. As if Velociraptorsweren’t already scary enough…
